What is Airflow® Stain Removal?

Airflow® treatment is a very simple and successful way to professionally clean, polish and remove surface staining from your teeth. It uses a spray jet of compressed air, water and bicarbonate to target stains caused by tea, coffee, red wine, smoking and other dark coloured foods and drinks and gently remove them. The Airflow® system enables even hard to reach areas to be accessed and treated for an overall healthier and brighter smile.

It is often used prior to teeth whitening treatment to remove all surface stains before the whitening lightens the tooth colour. Together, these treatments give the best improvement in tooth colour and shade.

What does the treatment involve?

Initially, we examine your teeth and assess the starting level of staining. We may take photographs so we can compare with your results.

The Airflow® procedure takes around 30 minutes in total, and is completely pain free, with no anaesthetic required at all. We clean your teeth with the focused jet of air, water and bicarbonate and polish them so they sparkle beautifully.

After just one short visit, you will not be able to help smiling as you show off your stunningly brighter, healthier teeth. Your results are immediately visible.

FAQs

How long do the results from Airflow® treatment last?

The longevity of your results depends a lot on your diet and lifestyle, as if you enjoy a lot of tea, coffee, other dark drinks or foods, or are a smoker, your staining will likely return more quickly. Many patients choose to repeat the treatment regularly to maintain their brighter smile.

Are there any alternative treatments?

No but Airflow® is often used in conjunction with teeth whitening, which is able to whiten beyond surface stains. If your teeth are very stained or discoloured, whitening may be needed in addition to the Airflow® treatment.

Is Airflow® treatment painful?

Airflow® treatment is completely pain-free, and many patients find it is much more comfortable than conventional hygiene treatment. We don’t need to use any local anaesthetic and the treatment needs no downtime afterwards whatsoever.

Does Airflow® treatment work on crowns/veneers/implants?

Yes, Airflow® stain removal treatment is very gentle, and can be used effectively on both natural teeth and restorations including crowns, veneers, bridges and implants.

Can I have Airflow® treatment before a special occasion?

Yes! Airflow® is the perfect treatment to quickly and effectively remove stains and create a sparkling smile before a special event or holiday. It doesn’t even need to take up much of your time either!

How can I prevent my teeth from becoming stained?

The best way to prevent your teeth from becoming stained is to practice excellent oral hygiene, brushing and flossing twice a day and visiting us for regular check up appointments. We also recommend you avoid items that cause staining, including tea, coffee, red wine and tobacco.

How regularly can I have Airflow® treatment?

For most patients, we recommend you visit for Airflow® treatment every six months. However, depending on your individual case or level of staining, you may be advised to leave a longer or shorter time between appointments.

Can Airflow® treatment improve my oral health?

Yes! As Airflow® stain removal treatment works to remove stubborn plaque and tartar from even hard to reach areas, your teeth and gums are left feeling cleaner and healthier. Regular treatments will help you maintain this improvement to your oral health.
