What are bridges?

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. They are fixed, long lasting and comfortable. There are various types and designs of bridges but all use the existing natural teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth as support to replace them. Our expert dentists design and construct the custom made bridge just for you to fit perfectly and look completely natural and beautiful.

There are several benefits of having a bridge placed including the improved cosmetics, additional chewing function, additional support and load sharing with your other teeth and preventing your remaining teeth from moving out of position, thus becoming misaligned or crooked.

What does the treatment involve?

At your first appointment, we ensure your teeth on either side of the gap will provide healthy and strong support for the bridge. We then prepare these teeth for the bridge.

We take impressions or digital scans of your teeth and mouth so that your custom made bridge can be expertly constructed. We fit a temporary bridge to protect your teeth in the interim.

When your bridge is ready, we check it fits perfectly, feels comfortable and that you are completely happy with it before fixing it securely into place.

FAQs

Can I remove my bridge?

No, the bridge is securely fixed into place and cannot be removed. This makes it a solid restoration, enabling you to eat and speak without issue.

How do I look after my bridge?

The best way to look after your bridge is to include it in your normal oral hygiene routine at home. You need to brush it twice a day, including cleaning under the false tooth, to prevent gum disease or decay from occurring. We are happy to show you how to clean your bridge effectively.

How many missing teeth can I replace with a dental bridge?

In most cases, a bridge is used to replace a single missing tooth. However, we can replace three consecutive missing teeth if required. Your dentist will discuss in detail all the options for replacing your missing teeth at your consultation.

What are the alternatives to a bridge?

You may consider a partial denture or implants to replace your missing tooth or teeth. Implants are incredibly secure and function exactly like a natural tooth, but are more costly. Partial dentures are removable, but they don’t have the stability of other options.
